This camera was manufactured between 1940 and 1942.
It is very similar to the other Derby II on the website, an American rangefinder was added on the front of the camera.
The previous model, manufactured from 1937 to 1940 and also named Derby II had a French rangefinder directly on the camera frame.
One has to acknowledge that the taxonomy of this brand is very strange… the name “model II” is given to “model I” that doesn’t have a rangefinder, and also to the two other rangefinder models.
This particular camera has a Foth f2.5 / 50mm lens.
The rangefinder is very clear for a camera of this period. Focusing is very easy, even with the eye far away from the rangefinder window. Focusing is achieved by turning a the lens front element: this process also drives a metallic shaft that plunges in and out of the rangefinder system.
The shutter offers speeds of 1/25-1/50-1/75-1/100-1/200 et 1/500th plus B. It has a self-timer. The finder is fixed.
This camera (as well as the other Derby II on the website) has two holes on the lensboard in front of the shutter release button, making it possible to… fire the shutter when the bellows is folded!
Even though it has conceptual flaws, this camera is original and pleasant.
